FAQ

Q: What size do you recommend?
A: It really depends on your wall space and how much detail you want included in the portrait. So far the most popular sizes have been 16 x 20 and 18 x 24.

Q: Why is the 8 x 10 limited to a head portrait only?
A: I really want to capture the personality of whomever I am painting. Because there is less space to work with on this smaller sized canvases, there is just not enough space to do this and include the full body. With this size I have found that focusing in on the eyes and facial expression is the best way to express a subject's unique character.

Q: Can you paint more than one animal in a single portrait?
A: Yes! Portraits with more than one animal are available in sizes 16 x 20 and larger. Each additional animal will be an added 10% of the base price.

Q: How long does it take to complete a portrait?
A: After the sketch is approved and I begin working on the actual canvas, it takes roughly between 4-10 weeks, depending on the portrait. If you need a portrait completed by a certain date (for example, in time for a birthday) please let me know in advance and I will do my best to accommodate you.

Q: What materials do you paint with?
A: I paint with high-quality acrylics. I was trained in oil paints but I switched over to acrylics several years ago because they are much safer for the environment. Out of respect for all animals, I never use products that have been tested on animals or that contain ingredients made from animals.

Q: Will you paint portraits of people?
A: Absolutely! In fact, much of my formal art education was spent painting and drawing the human form. If you are interested in seeing samples of my figure paintings and drawings or commissioning a portrait, please email me at kategoldhouse@gmail.com.
